Graham Chapman (of Monty Python fame) once said,’ I don’t believe that libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence.’
On Saturday, The Friends of Mirfield Library held their Open Day and showed just how much they agree with this comment. Mirfield library came alive! It became a place of excellent music, it became a social place with plenty of conversation about the library activities and groups which were on display.
Most importantly, it became a busy place. Every section of the community came to show their support for the library, including our MP Paula Sherriff.
In the hot days before the Open Day, Friends and volunteers worked hard to renovate the garden – to weed the area and plant flowers.
On ‘the day’ the garden was a blaze of colour and a fitting venue to enjoy the great music provided by the Kirklees Music School Intermediate Band.
‘It’s been a few days of hard work for the Friends of Mirfield Library, but, seeing Mirfield library showing what future potential it has was wonderful. We are only just beginning!’ said, Jenny Tomlinson Chair, Friends of Mirfield Library.
